It’s a machine. Powered by awesome.

Here is a picture of the US indie-rock group OKGo:

As you can imagine, they are rather silly. Their music is only “ok”, in my opinion, but they do have a fantasic habit of making amazing music videos. Their latest offering is easily the best yet. In fact, i’d even go as far as to say that it is the best music video

(sorry beyonce)

Here it is:

For those who care deeply about what things are called, it’s a Rube Goldberg machine. A device that works by initiating a needlessly complicated chain of reactions resulting in an outcome (usually menial but sometimes awesome). For example:  a shoe could fall from a shelf, hit a button which in turn would let the horse out of the paddocks only to crash into a ladder causing the painting man to be injured at work who would subsequently phone injurylawyers4u and get real compensation from real lawyers and be rewarded with £20 000.  See? Simple. The cool thing (or one of the cool things) about OkGo’s video is that the band members are also part of the chain reaction. Which is ten times better than watching the kaiser chiefs stand around whilst CGI buildings grow up around them.

[edit] I just noticed the unintentional bad pun I made. I’m not removing it.
